Listen: Tom Vek’s new song “Sherman (Animals In The Jungle)”

Back in 2005, UK singer-songwriter Tom Vek had a sizable breakthrough with his debut album, We Have Sound, an exhilarating effort marked by warm pop hooks, infectious dance grooves, and ever-inquisitive experimentation. Rather than striking while the iron was hot, though, Vek waited six years before he released his follow-up, 2011’s equally exciting Leisure Seizure. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait nearly as long for album #3, as Vek has announced the release of Luck, due out June 9th via Moshi Moshi Records.

Our first taste of the 11-track effort comes with “Sherman (Animals in the Jungle)”. Here, Vek expands upon the harder-edged dance-rock of Leisure Seizure, making the combination of twitchy synths and jagged basslines feel all that more lively and accessible. Still, perhaps most alluring is Vek’s vocal presence: even as he rambles on about ramps and braces, his monotone, sing-talk style exudes an air of perpetual suave and grace.
