Watch: Peter Gabriel and Chris Martin perform “Washing of the Water”

Another highlight of last night's Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction.

One of the earlier highlights of last night’s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction was Chris Martin’s heartfelt speech on longtime influence Peter Gabriel“He’s a curator and an inspirer,” Martin observed, adding: “He helped John Cusack get his girlfriend back in the movie Say Anything,” Because he’s the lead singer of Coldplay, he later shared the stage with the legend, performing “Washing of the Water” off Gabriel’s exceptional 1992 solo album, Us.

Martin shared an anecdote about purchasing the album on cassette, before admitting that “Water” was his favorite song off the LP. So, you could imagine how much this duet meant to him. Catch it below and let this be a lesson to every young artist out there: Work hard enough, depress enough people with your music, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll share the stage with your idol. Eh, probably not.

(Side note: Peter Gabriel totally looks like Dr. Evil)

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will air on HBO on May 31st.
