Listen: Bon Iver’s new song “Heavenly Father”

Today, Justin Vernon returns with the first new song as Bon Iver in three years with “Heavenly Father”. As previously reported, the song appears on the soundtrack to Zach Braff’s new film Wish I Was Here, alongside original compositions from The Shins, Cat Power, and Coldplay.

On “Heavenly Father”, Vernon’s haunting howl pokes through the static of looping, ambient electronics. “I don’t know you house the sin, I was never sure how much of you I could let in,” he sings, the words as stark and sobering as the ballad itself. Listen to the song at NPR.org.

The soundtrack is out digitally and on CD July 15th, and on vinyl August 5th. The film, meanwhile, beginning July 18th.
