Having worked in film composition, Canadian singer-songwriter Lydia Ainsworth has a sharp ear when it comes to creating cinematic music that enthralls as much as it perpetuates a story. We heard Ainsworth work this brand of magic on her debut album, this year’s impressive Right From Real. Now, she’s done it once more with a new cover of the Chris Isaak classic “Wicked Game”.

Ghostly at every turn, Ainsworth’s rendition summons throngs of power and emotion, despite its decidedly minimal details. Her vocals — especially her cautious, elongated delivery — billow like smoke, carrying a tingling ache that stays with you long after the song’s ended. Listen/download the cover below.
