A few days ago, Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett posted the above Instagram image of a plane with the band’s logo and “Sonic Highways” written across the side. Tagged “Air Foo,” the picture sparked rumors that the rockers would return for a new season of their HBO docu-series Sonic Highways, one that would see them exploring studios and cities outside of the US. Now, NME has posted a video interview with the band in which Dave Grohl confirms Sonic Highways season two is indeed happening.
Grohl was playfully coy about exactly where the new season would take place. “It might or might not be international. It might someday be international. It might only be England, or be England and other places, or maybe it’s places in America and people from other countries that are inspired by these places in America,” he said. However, he teased that the UK could indeed play home to the new musical road trip. “I mean of all places in the world, England and the UK just seems like it would be like shooting fish in a barrel, ya know? There’s just so fucking much here.”
He doesn’t hint at any timeline for the series, either, saying, “I’m sure it’ll happen someday; I’m just not sure when.” Watch the whole interview below.
Of course, you can currently revisit Sonic Highways season one on DVD and Blu-ray, as well as the resulting album of the same name.
