Screaming Females turn Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” into a blaring punk rock song — watch

Marissa Paternoster gets down to that one sick beat

Screaming Females

New Jersey’s Screaming Females are known for their rip-roaring punk. Taylor Swift is known for that one sick beat and her uncomfortably loud pop. Still, the latest installment from A.V. Club’s A.V. Undercover series, in which artists cover unexpected songs, has found a way for both artists to coexist, and impressively so.

Here, Screaming Females knock out a great rendition of Swift’s “Shake It Off”, with singer Marissa Paternoster leading the way with her distinct howl. Between her shoulder shimmying, the electric bridge, and the way she delivers the verses so very un-Swift-like, well, let’s just say you’ll never hear this song the same way again. Also, never before has a sock been put to such good use. Check it out below.

Screaming Females’ last album was this year’s excellent Rose Mountain.
