In January, the surviving members of Mad Season, Mike McCready and Barrett Martin, rekindled for a one-off reunion concert in Seattle. The pair performed orchestral and solo arrangements of original Mad Season works with accompaniment from Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, Pearl Jam members Matt Cameron, Stone Gossard, and Jeff Ament, and Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan, along with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.
For those who couldn’t be in attendance, a recording of the concert will be released on August 28th. Entitled Mad Season / Seattle Symphony: Sonic Evolution / January 30, 2015 / Benaroya Hall (yes, it’s a mouthful), the album will be available on CD, vinyl, and digital formats through Pearl Jam’s own Monkeywrench Records. Proceeds will benefit the Seattle Symphony and Vitalogy Foundation.
Also on August 28th, Legacy and Columbia will reissue Mad Season: Live at The Moore, a recording of the final performance to feature the band’s original lineup of McCready, Martin, Layne Staley, and John Baker Saunders. Originally available on home video in 1995, this new release marks the first time the April 29th, 1995 performance will be available on 12-inch vinyl. The 2xLP set also includes new liner notes penned by Martin.
Both live albums are available for pre-order via Pearl Jam’s website. Below, watch performance footage of Mad Season’s reunion concert.
