San Francisco’s Hot Flash Heat Wave have been playing together in some fashion since high school. In their teen years, their various bands would play shows together in their other friends’ garages. After venturing off into chillwave, the quartet reconvened together in 2013 to return to their garage rock roots. Now they’re preparing to self-release their debut album, Neapolitan, out September 11th. Before the album hits stores, they’ve shared their latest fiery song “Homecoming”.
A ping-pong guitar rhythm bounces back and forth throughout the song, giving a bubbly energy to the punk scorcher. Jangling guitar rhythms crash against the booming drums and howling vocals. As the chorus comes in with oohs and aahs, there’s a sense of triumph and celebration. The band’s clearly having fun returning to their punk roots after a few musical detours, and it’s a very sweet homecoming.
