Give ’em a year and they’ll come back louder. That’s sound advice, no pun intended, yet also the vibrant truth for Los Angeles garage rockers together PANGEA. After teasing demos, touring Europe, and sharing a bill with The Replacements, the scorched lungs of William Keegan and his raucous band of misfits have returned in chummy style with a new EP, a brackish single, and a pocket’s worth of fall tour dates that will take them all across North America again.
Produced by Tommy Stinson (!), The Phage EP consists of six tracks that were recorded at LA’s King Size North studios and engineered by Phillip Broussard, Jr. and Andrew Schubert. As for the weird title, Keegan explains that it’s “essentially cabin fever, whether it be a cabin or a tour van that you’re trapped in for months,” adding: “When things become funny for no reason and a little madness sets in, that’s when you start stealing organs with a teleportation ray. Just watch Star Trek Voyager.”
To kind-of, sort-of, maybe understand what the hell that means, the band’s unlocked its first single off the release, “If You’re Scared”. It’s a grungy pop song that Keegan insists is all about social anxiety — or not. “Actually, it’s more about trying to manage social anxiety without being a brat to the people around you,” he clarifies. “Learning how to be less of an asshole to the people around me was basically the inspiration for this song.” See for yourself below.
The Phage EP can be in your hands on October 16th in the form of a vinyl, a cassette, or a digital file. Choose wisely.
