William Shatner has long been retired as captain of the USS Enterprise. Come next year, however, Captain Kirk will be asked to lead a brand new expedition, albeit aboard a nautical ship.
Star Trek: The Cruise will launch January 9th, 2017 from Miami, Florida and sail to ports in Nassau and the Great Stirrup Cay during its six-day journey.
Shatner himself will serve as the ship’s de facto captain, appearing alongside other Star Trek cast members including Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Riker), Denise Crosby (Security Chief Tasha Yar), and John de Lancie (Q) from The Next Generation; Robert Picardo (The Doctor) from Voyager; and James Darren (Vic Fontaine) from Deep Space Nine.
The “totally immersive” experience also includes “intimate speaking engagements with leading scientists, influencers, and experts,” as well as parties, games, and competitions. There will also be a performance from the Enterprise Blue Band, which is composed of Star Trek actors Vaughn Armstrong (Admiral Maxwell Forrest) and Casey Biggs (Cardassian Damar).
The cruise is officially sanctioned by CBS Studios in celebration of the franchise’s 50th anniversary. Reservations are now open.
In related news, the franchise’s latest film, Star Trek Beyond, hits theaters on July 8th, 2016. Chris Pine once again plays Captain Kirk in a cast that also includes Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, and Idris Elba. Justin Lin is directing the screenplay co-written by Pegg.
