Zach Galifianakis will voice The Joker in LEGO Batman

Finally, a Joker that actually tells jokes

One of the highlights of The LEGO Movie was Will Arnett’s take on Batman: a doom and gloom type guy with dead parents and a sick sound system in his Batmobile. Now, one hell of a cast is coming together for the spinoff, The LEGO Batman Movie, which will most assuredly be the funniest Batman flick since Batman and Robin (everyone loves a good ice pun or 40). A month back, Michael Cera was cast as the Caped Crusader’s trusty sidekick, Robin, and today we’ve learned that Zach Galifianakis of Out Cold fame (OK, fine, of The Hangover fame) is in final negotiations to take the role of The Joker.

If you’ve heard Galifianakis voicing Felix Fischoeder on Bob’s Burgers, you know he’s more than capable of creating a deranged character with only his voice, so this casting seems perfect. Now it’s just a matter of filling out the rest of the cast. If I may be so bold as to make a few suggestions, Sarah Silverman would probably be the most perfect Harley Quinn possible, H. Jon Benjamin would be a great Commissioner Gordon, and if we’re going for the Arrested Development reunion trifecta, Jason Bateman as The Riddler would be pretty fantastic.

The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are producing LEGO Batman along with Dan Lin and Roy Lee. Chris McKay, who did the animation supervising on The LEGO Movie, will direct the film from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies). The movie is due out in theaters on February 10th, 2017.
