The Dead Weather give first performance in five years on Colbert — watch

Late night's newest host continues his musical winning streak

Dead Weather

After kicking off his tenure as Late Show host with a tremendous all-star Superjam, an incendiary performance by the hottest name in hip-hop, and a dream gig providing the whistle solo to Paul Simon’s “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard”, Stephen Colbert is on a musical roll. It doesn’t look like he’ll be slowing down, either, as his first show of week two featured the first performance by The Dead Weather in nearly five years.

Making the gig even more special, the band has said they won’t be touring behind the new LP, Dodge and Burn, and Jack White announced an extended touring hiatus back in April. But when his old pal Colbert called him up, he just couldn’t say no. It’s a shame they likely won’t be heading out on the road, because Alison Mosshart and the boys were in rare form. And seemingly aware of how rare these kinds of gigs will be for the band, they savored every moment of lead single “I Feel Love (Every Million Miles)”. Relive the slaying performance below.

Dodge and Burn is out September 25th via Third Man Records.
