The original Die Hard movie was an adaptation of Roderick Thorp’s 1977 novel Nothing Lasts Forever, which is quite ironic given the film franchise is now 27 years and five movies into its existence. Now, FOX is pinning for a sixth Die Hard film, according to Deadline. But with Bruce Willis not getting any younger, studio executives are reportedly going the route of an origin-story prequel.
Len Wiseman, who helmed 2007’s Live Free Or Die Hard, is working with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura on a new film entitled, Die Hard Year One. The plot would reportedly take place in 1979, nine years before the events portrayed in 1988’s original Die Hard, and center around John McClane’s time as a New York City police officer.
Interestingly enough, the plan is for Willis to star in the film, appearing in scenes set in the modern day. Or, as The Playlist quips, “Maybe in a rocking chair, recounting his adventures to the residents of a retirement home?”
