True to his nature, Richard Linklater is keeping it local. Two years after he premiered the critical smash Boyhood, the Austin filmmaker returns home to debut his latest project, Everybody Wants Some, at next year’s South by Southwest Film Festival.
“We are so thrilled to premiere Richard’s latest work, which is really funny, instantly quotable, and filled will great new talent,” said Janet Pierson, head of SXSW Film. “Audiences are going to love this paean to competition and coming of age in the ’80s.”
The official synopsis is as follows: “A spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused and set in the world of 1980 college life, Everybody Wants Some is a comedy that follows a group of friends as they navigate their way through the freedoms and responsibilities of unsupervised adulthood. Get ready for the best weekend ever.”
The cast includes Tyler Hoechlin (Road to Perdition, 7th Heaven), Wyatt Russell (22 Jump Street), Ryan Guzman (Step Up), Will Brittain (The Doo Dah Man), Glen Powell (Sex Ed), and Zoey Deutch (Ringer, Vampire Academy).
The film will open next year’s festivities on Friday, March 11th before officially hitting theaters on April 15th via Paramount.
