Peter Buck’s annual Todos Santos benefit festival wrapped up its second weekend in Mexico on Saturday, once again concluding with a surprise collaboration. During the first weekend of this year’s event, members of Wilco, R.E.M., Sleater-Kinney, and more joined forces to pay tribute to David Bowie. As weekend two closed out with a headlining set from Death Cab for Cutie, Buck and his R.E.M. bandmate Mike Mills returned for yet another unique cover.

With DCFC’s Ben Gibbard taking lead and Buck playing guitar, the group took on R.E.M.’s 1986 track “Fall on Me”.  Mills dropped in with his familiar voice on the hook and bridge while Gibbard was a surprisingly fit stand-in for the inimitable Michael Stipe. Together, they delivered a performance warm with nostalgia that surely induced jealousy amongst those who only went to the first weekend of Todos Santos.
