It was in April of last year that Deftones frontman Chino Moreno said the band’s new record would be out in September 2015. Obviously, that date has come and gone with no new album. Now, however, it seems that we can finally expect the release in April of this year.
Guitarist Stephen Carpenter has dropped an April 8th release date for the alternative metal band’s eighth full-length, their first since 2012’s Koi No Yokan. The reveal came during an interview with ESP Guitars at the National Association of Music Merchants trade show in Anaheim, California.
“[We’re] sitting around waiting for the release of our new record,” Carpenter said. “Comes out April 8th, and we have some dates in Texas in March.” Neither the release date nor those Texas tour dates had been officially announced prior to Carpenter’s statements.
Not much else is known about the yet-untitled release. Last year, Moreno called it “more of a heady record” then past efforts. He added that the band had “gone into the songs and really dissected them. If something sounded a little straight, we took a left turn and made things a little screwy. We just tried something completely opposite, not to sabotage it, but to challenge ourselves and try new things that we haven’t done in the past.”
