The March 31st event was originally curated as part of City Winery founder Michael Dorf’s annual tribute series, and announced just hours before news of Bowie’s death surfaced. The lineup features The Roots, The Mountain Goats, Cyndi Lauper, Perry Farrell, Jakob Dylan, Robyn Hitchcock, and Heart’s Ann Wilson.
As announced today, a second show will take place the following night, April 1st, at Radio City Music Hall. The lineup for this show includes R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, Laurie Anderson, Cat Power, Farrell, Wilson, and The Polyphonic Spree.
Yesterday, UK tabloids reported that Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger would also take part in the memorial concert. However, a representative for McCartney tells us it’s merely “tabloid speculation.”
Bowie’s own producer, Tony Visconti, will lead the house band for both concerts.
