It’s always nice when a band goes out of its way to incorporate regional influences into its sound. Take Florida septet The Hip Abduction, for example, whose members concoct a tropical indie stew that incorporates everything from dub-reggae bass lines to funky afro-beat percussion. Judging by their latest single “Before We Lose Our Mind”, the band’s upcoming sophomore full-length will also throw some electronica and world music into the mix.
That full-length, entitled Gold Under the Glow, is set to introduce The Hip Abduction to the mainstream, where they’ve probably belonged all along. “Before We Lose Our Mind” has all the makings of a commercial radio smash, with infectious synth melodies and a singalong chorus that recalls an equatorial version of Iceland’s Of Monsters and Men. Take a listen below.
In anticipation of the March 11th release of Gold Under the Glow from ILS Group/Caroline/Universal, The Hip Abduction will hit the road in early 2016 with The Expendables and Zach Deputy Band. Check out the tour dates below.
