Eddie Vedder returns to his high school, performs on-stage with teachers, alumni — watch

\Pearl Jam frontman sang "Got the Time" and played hand percussion on The Modern Lovers' "Roadrunner"

They always say that no matter how big of a superstar you become, you should never forget your roots. Well, let it never be said that Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has forgotten where he came from.

Over the weekend, Vedder attended a performing arts fundraiser at his old high school, the San Dieguito Academy. The rocker wasn’t just there to donate to a good cause, however, as he took the stage with teachers and fellow alumni to cover Joe Jackson’s 1979 song “Got the Time”. Vedder took the mic while his peers got the once-in-a-lifetime chance to pretend like they were in Pearl Jam. Watch video of the performance below thanks to the Pearl Jam message boards (via Stereogum).

During the course of the evening, Vedder also picked up a hand shaker with a bunch of San Dieguito students as they backed up the band (called the Amazons, apparently) on a cover of The Modern Lovers’ “Roadrunner”, and did some acoustic improve with San Dieguito alumni and improv actress Ariane Price.
