On Wednesday night’s episode of The Tonight Show, D’Angelo joined up with Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum to perform a moving tribute to Prince, who died last Thursday at the age of 57. Fallon had tweeted ahead of time saying that the performance was going to be “super special,” but even that couldn’t have prepared us for what actually went down: a powerful, heartfelt rendition of “Sometimes It Snows in April” from three people who were greatly impacted by The Purple One (Rudolph and Liebrum front the Prince tribute band Princess).
This marks only the latest Prince tribute to hit Fallon this week. Last night, Fallon sat down with Questlove and shared an incredible story about Prince whipping his ass in a game of ping pong. All of this is to say that the Purple One was a singular personality, and there will never be another quite like him.
