Friday marks the release of Nosebleed Weekend, the new album from The Coathangers. The 13-track collection is the first of their five full-lengths to be worked on outside of their Atlanta hometown. It was recorded with producer Nic Jodin (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club) at LA’s Valentine Recording Studios — the first time an artist had logged a session there in nearly 40 years.
“The Beach Boys and Bing Crosby both recorded there!” said singer/guitarist Julia Kugel of their time at Valentine studios. “It was an amazing experience, not to mention a ghostly one too. The studio had been custom built by Jimmy Valentine and he was very protective of his passion. It sounds weird, but his spirit was there, checking in on us and fucking with us a bit.”
Already we’ve heard three tracks off the LP, “Make It Right”, its spiky title track, and one of last month’s best selections in “Squeeki Tiki”. Today, the trio of Kugel, Meredith Franco, and Stephanie Luke are back with “Dumb Baby”, a gritty, garage punk cut complete with some gnarly, angular guitar work around the 1:40 mark.

Nosebleed Weekend, the follow-up to 2014’s Suck My Shirt, arrives April 15th through Suicide Squeeze.
