In his upcoming film Café Society, writer/director Woody Allen takes us back to the glamorous days of Hollywood in the 1930s. The romantic comedy/drama, which is set to debut at the Cannes Film Festival before hitting theaters on August 12th, boasts an ensemble cast of Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg, Blake Lively, and Steve Carell, among others.
A synopsis describes the movie thusly: “A young man arrives in Hollywood during the 1930s hoping to work in the film industry. There, he falls in love, and finds himself swept up in the vibrant café society that defined the spirit of the age.”
Among the producers attached to the project are Stephen Tenenbaum, who worked on Allen’s 2011 film Midnight in Paris, and Letty Aronson, Allen’s younger sister and To Rome With Love co-producer.
Ahead of its premiere, the first trailer has been revealed, introducing us to its star-studded cast in very classy, refined fashion.
Allen’s last film was 2015’s Irrational Man, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone.
