Donald Glover has been making plenty of moves in Hollywood lately, but his rap persona Childish Gambino has been mostly quiet since 2013’s polarizing Because the Internet and 2014’s EP/mixtape STN MTN / Kauai. Turns out the multi-talented rapper has been hard at work on a new LP, and he’s just announced a three-day concert experience to debut his latest effort.
Dubbed “Pharos”, the event will take place September 2nd – 4th at Joshua Tree, California. Gambino will use the gathering to debut new music and provide a “full album experience” for fans. Guests 21 and over will also be able to access on-site camping.
The announcement came via a smartphone app called PHAROS Earth, which Gambino himself linked to on Twitter Friday evening. The app turned out to be a countdown to the release of the “Pharos” details, and is also the only place to purchase the limited tickets to the event. Pre-sale begins June 24th at 11:00 AM CT and will be the only time to purchase group tickets for up to three people. When general on-sale begins on June 27th, also at 11:00 AM CT, only single tickets will be available. The cost either way will be $99, and that includes fees and camping.
iPhone users can download the PHAROS Earth app here.
Update: After the first three PHAROS shows sold in just six months, Gambino has two announced two new late-night performances for both Friday, September 2nd and Saturday, September 3rd. Tickets go on sale Friday at Noon PST.
