The Tallest Man on Earth reveals new single “Time of the Blue” and video — watch

Swedish songwriter returns with a gorgeous, stripped-down cut

Earlier this year, The Tallest Man on Earth’s Kristian Matsson shared a short film documenting how last summer’s Dark Bird Is Home came together. The Swedish singer-songwriter returns this week, but instead of revisiting the past once more, he’s come bearing a brand new single/video and slightly different sound.

“Time of the Blue” peels back the many rich layers found on Dark Bird Is Home and sees Matsson adopting a more straightforward, stripped-down approach. Here, fragile acoustic guitars are the only accompaniments to Matsson’s lilting, lullaby-like croon. “I get the job, they make it rain, but now I need your shadow, friend,” he yearns.

Echoing the starkness of the song, its corresponding Rolf Nylinder-directed visual shows the troubadour singing by his lonesome self from inside a rustic house. It also features footage of what looks to be Sweden’s sparse countryside.

Matsson will be on the road for the next couple of months, including festival gigs at Ottawa Bluesfest and Way Out West and dates alongside Lady Lamb and The Head and the Heart.
