There are many things about the Grammys that are awful, and LL Cool J is chief among them. For the last five years, the “Mama Said Knock You Out” rapper has been tasked with hosting the annual music ceremonies for reasons that are still unclear.
When it was announced last year that LL would be hosting for a fifth consecutive year, Stereogum’s Tom Breihan put fingers to keyboard and wrote one of my favorite takedowns in recent memory: “He represents everything terrible about the enterprise: Flashy self-congratulation, tone-deaf smugness, loud shilling, the utter and complete inability to competently deliver a joke, and the distinct possibility that a garbage-ass Z-Trip collaboration could happen at any second. And yet he keeps getting the job.”
And by the looks of it, this living, breathing natural disaster isn’t about to end anytime soon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS has signed a deal to continue broadcasting the Grammys through 2026. The 2017 gala is set for Sunday, February 12th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
So yeah — nine more years of this bullshit:
