Tired of trailers today? Too bad. This one’s kind of a can’t miss: Despite the fact that we’ve seen King Kong done over and over again, it would appear that director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has found a fresh new take for Kong: Skull Island.
For one, he’s assembled one hell of a prolific cast that includes (no lie): Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Jason Mitchell, Corey Hawkins, Toby Kebbell, Tom Wilkinson, Thomas Mann, Terry Notary, John Goodman, and John C. Reilly.
Better yet, this ape is one hell of a creature, as Vogt-Roberts insists, “Our Kong is by far the biggest Kong that you’ve seen on screen, and that translates to a lot of different things on the island.”
Granted, Roland Emmerich used the whole “size does matter” schtick back in 1998, but this first trailer promises the sort of high stakes that not even Peter Jackson could capture in 2005’s King Kong.
Just listen to Jackson, who drinks some Tarantino Tequila and pushes Goodman to the edge, saying: “You’re going to tell me everything you know, or I’m going to blow your head off.” Shivers.
Also, if you recall, this film is tied to Gareth Edwards’ own 2014 reboot of Godzilla, as the two monsters will one day come face to face in Godzilla vs. Kong. That day? May 29, 2020. Yep, four fucking years away.
