Norway’s Klangstof share woozy indie pop gem “We Are Your Receiver” — listen

Norwegian upstarts create lush soundscapes on a song about "leaving our offline selves behind"

Norway’s Klangstof are known for creating soundscapes that sound as lush as rainforests but somehow retain some of the cold austerity for which Scandinavia is famous. Singer-songwriter and ringleader Koen Van De Wardt, who taught himself how to play guitar after growing up in relative isolation, likes to balance between the two extremes; his songs harken back to a simpler, more innocent era of indie pop even as they pioneer dazzling electronic sounds.

Such is the case with new single “We Are Your Receiver”, which acts as a warning against relying too much on public perception. It’s about “leaving our offline selves behind,” explains Van De Wardt. He continues: “‘Likes’ are a very addictive drug to people nowadays, and that scares the hell out of me.”

Klangstof will release a full-length album this year via LA-based label Mind Of A Genius. For now, check out their latest track below, and scroll down for a list of Klangstof’s upcoming European tour dates.
