This evening, Kim Kardashian-West posted video showing a phone call between her husband, Kanye West, and Taylor Swift. In the video, Kanye asks Swift permission to use the lyric, “For all my south side n****s that know me best/ I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/ I made that bitch famous” (the lyrics appear on his song “Famous”). “It’s like a compliment kind of,” Swift can be heard saying in response. “Go with whatever line you think is better. It’s obviously very tongue in cheek either way,” she adds. “I really appreciate you telling me about it! That’s really nice.”

Swift has since responded to the video on her Instagram. She maintains that Kanye never informed her of the line, “I made that bitch famous.” “Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me, ‘that bitch’ in his song?” Swift writes. “It doesn’t exist because it didn’t happen.”

“Being falsely portrayed as a liar when I was never given the full story or played any part of the song is character assassination,” Swift adds. “I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one I never asked to be a part of, since 2009.”

For what it’s worth, Swift initially said Kanye never contacted her for approval of the song’s lyrics. Additionally, Swift said she cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message,” which is not depicted in the leaked video.
