Parents will have a new way to turn their toddlers on to the Beatles when Beat Bugs arrives on Netflix August 3rd. The Beatles-themed animated kid’s show features anthropomorphized beetles (along with other insects) belting out Fab Four classics as covered by artists including Sia, Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, Of Monsters and Men, Regina Spektor, and The Shins.
Our first taste of those covers comes via Vulture, and it’s a trailer featuring The Shins covering “The Word”. James Mercer and Co. do a pretty spot-on job with the Rubber Soul track, though it’s a bit hard to pay attention with all the little bugs acting out the lyrics on screen. It all may seem a bit silly, but any television show that can convince kids of the Beatles’ unrivaled excellence is OK in our books.
