The robots of Daft Punk tend to keep things close to the vest, which is probably why we’ve heard so little from them since 2013’s much ballyhooed Random Access Memories. The French duo remain active, however, having recently hit the studio with R&B crooner The Weeknd.
News of their collaboration nearly slipped through the cracks, but YourEDM picked up on a quick aside in a recent Billboard interview. The magazine had gathered together a “Hitmakers Roundtable,” where seven music makers and influencers discussing working in the current pop environment. When asked which artist she’d like to work with, Republic Records’ executive VP and head of urban A&R Wendy Goldstein let slip that she was about to check Daft Punk off her list.
“Actually, we have a session coming up in two days … with The Weeknd and Daft Punk,” Goldstein said. “I’ve always been a massive Daft Punk fan, and this is the first time that I’ve actually been involved with an artist who’s going to go and work with them.”
It’s hard to say when “two days” was since we don’t know when the interview was taped, but Billboard posted it on Wednesday the 17th, the same day The Weeknd shared this image on Facebook:
