Earlier this week, it was announced that some of George Carlin’s “darkest” material would finally see the light of day in the form of a new posthumous album called I Kinda Like It When A Lotta People Die.
The upcoming collection — the first original Carlin recording to be issued in some six years — features routines from a Las Vegas show that took place on September 9th and 10th, 2001. Though it was supposed to be widely released, the comedian ended up shelving the recordings following the terror attacks on 9/11, deeming them far too macabre even for his audience.
Ahead of the album’s September 16th due date, Vulture has shared an exclusive snippet titled “Rats & Squealers”. The preview is only a little over two minutes in length, but it manages to capture Carlin’s trademark sharp wit and unfiltered tongue as he recounts his reasons for hating on the police. It’s Carlin as we’ve always known him, however, it’s also clear to see why he opted to keep this stuff under wraps post-9/11.
