St. Vincent has performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” before, at a small baseball game in her Marfa, Texas hometown. But she’s never torn it up like she did for a new promo for the NFL.
The ad, which has been airing during the Olympics, is soundtracked by Annie Clark’s “bendy and a little bit manic or off-kilter” rendition of our national anthem to reflect “the turbulent times in which we live.” You can watch the commercial above. Below, check out a mini-doc that sees Clark talking about her love of the Dallas Cowboys and watch her record her version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” — on a guitar of her own design using the Cowboys’ color scheme, no less.
