The CW hasn’t proven itself to be the most diverse or forward-thinking network, basing its lineup largely on superhero shows like The Flash and Supergirl along with vampire dramas The Originals and Vampire Diaries. The network has now green-light even more blood-sucking programming as they’re moving forward with a new series based on 1987’s The Lost Boys, Deadline reports.
Now, before you groan at the prospect of yet another remake, the proposed series won’t tell the exact same story as the Joel Schumacher film. CW’s vision is for it to run for seven seasons and span 70 years, starting in San Francisco during 1967’s Summer of Love and moving forward in time, with the vampiric Lost Boys not aging a bit, naturally.
The “anthology” series is the brainchild of Veronica Mars and iZombie creator Rob Thomas, and while it seems kind of interesting, it also seems like the ties to the original Lost Boys are pretty loose. Which begs the question: Why not just call it a new thing? Oh yeah, because Hollywood is its own kind of vampire, intent on sucking the blood out of every franchise it can. And going by the rules of vampire mythology, it might just keep doing this forever.
