Next month, Thundercat is expected to join George Clinton, Shabazz Palaces, The Gaslamp Killer, and more at a trio of Brainfeeder-themed shows in California (9/15-16 in Oakland, 9/17 in Los Angeles). Turns out the experimental producer and bass virtuoso will come bearing new music in the form of “Bus In These Streets”.

Revealed today, the airy and smooth tune is meant as a “comedic ode to our dependence on technology,” according to a press release (hence the wacky artwork below). It features Thundercat on vocals and bass as well as frequent collaborator Steve Ellison, aka Flying Lotus, on programming and editing duties.

Along with his Kendrick Lamar-referencing untitled track back in February, “Bus In These Streets” is one of his first pieces of new material since his 2015 mini-album, The Beyond/Where the Giants Roam. He’ll next contribute music to FlyLo’s upcoming Kuso feature film.
