Come January 20th, the Obama presidency will come to an end. Rather than fly home to Chicago, however, it appears First Lady Michelle Obama is intent on hitting the road with her best friend: Beyoncé.
The First Lady’s fondness for Queen Bey is well documented. In the last month alone, the two vacationed together at Camp David, and Auntie Bey escorted Malia Obama to Made in America Festival. Mrs. Obama also recently sang along to “Single Ladies” during an appearance on Carpool Karaoke.
Last night, FLOTUS continued her tour of the late-night circuit with a visit to the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and once again, all she wanted to talk about was Beyoncé. Not once, not twice, but three times, Mr.s Obama specifically brought up the pop singer.
Early on, the First Lady and Colbert pondered life’s questions from underneath a blanket fort. When asked who she’d like to live on a desert island with, her answer was — yep, Beyoncé. “Wait can I change to Beyoncé?” Colbert asked after he himself chose President Obama. “Nope, she’s mine,” Mrs. Obama responded.
During the actual interview segment, Colbert asked FLOTUS what Beyoncé was like in real life. “She’s a special person,” she responded. “She’s a sweetheart. She’s smart, she’s creative, she’s a great mother, she loves her family. She’s just a low-key lady — we have a lot in common that way. Except I can’t sing … I can’t dance.”
Later on in the interview, Mrs. Obama discussed what her husband is like at the dinner table. “Malia will usually ask the serious question, ‘Dad tell us about your day? What about that conversation about global warning?’ FLOTUS then segued into her remarkably on-point impersonation of the president, mimicking him saying, “That’s a good question. Let me answer that in three points. One, then One A, then One B.” She continued, “And Sasha and I are like ‘ugh’, because Sasha and I just want to talk about our favorite song on Lemonade.”
