Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong plays punk-rock pops in trailer for Ordinary World — watch

Judy Greer, Selma Blair, Dallas Roberts, Chris Messina, and Fred Armisen also star

Who knew Billie Joe Armstrong could act? Sure, those music videos for Green Day have been fairly demanding, especially those surrounding 2004’s American Idiot and 2009’s 21st Century Breakdown, but enough to handle an indie comedy?

Well, color us impressed as the punk rock singer leads the cast of Lee Kirk’s Ordinary World, which includes Judy Greer, Selma Blair, Dallas Roberts, Chris Messina, Fred Armisen, Brian Baumgartner, and Kevin Corrigan. Not too shabby.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“The story follows former punk rocker Perry (Armstrong) who is ten years into his band’s ‘indefinite hiatus’ and is struggling with his adjustment to the real world (which includes working in his family’s hardware store). When Perry’s hotshot attorney wife (Blair) and precocious young daughter forget his 40th birthday, his brother (Messina) takes pity and gives him the money to throw a huge rockstar blowout in a fancy New York hotel. At the party, Perry’s punk past clashes hilariously with his middle-aged reality as he encounters crazy former bandmates and an old-flame-turned-manager (Greer), who offers him a chance to revive his stalled career.”

Well, that sounds right up the guy’s alley. Judging from the trailer above, he looks like he’s more than ready for the challenge. You be the judge, though, when the film hits theaters on October 14th. Only seven days after Green Day’s new album.
