Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day Lewis’ new film is a go at Focus Features

The Oscar-winning team behind There Will Be Blood reunites for 1950s drama

The Toronto Film Festival has only just begun and already it’s made history.

According to Deadline, Focus Features came out swinging early and has agreed to fully finance the previously discussed reunion between Oscar juggernaut Daniel Day Lewis and There Will Be Blood filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.

“Paul Thomas Anderson is a singular storyteller who has the ability to mesmerize audiences by creating complex and fascinating characters,” Focus chairman Peter Kujawski said. “It is our privilege to bring Daniel Day-Lewis’ reteaming with Paul to movie lovers who have long hoped for their reunion.”

As The Playlist points out, the studio ponied up $35 million bucks for this prized puppy, making it one of the biggest deals to ever go down on the festival floor. What’s more, Megan Ellison’s unstoppable Annapurna Pictures will produce.

“Amongst their contemporaries, Paul and Daniel truly represent the highest tier of artistry in film,” Ellison said. “We are thrilled to partner with Peter and his entire team at Focus and collaborate once again with Paul on this ever original, visionary story. We cannot wait to see this lush world come to life with Daniel at the center.”

If you recall, the film was briefly mentioned earlier this summer and will take place in the 1950s New York fashion industry. Anderson penned the screenplay and shooting will commence next year for a late 2017 release.
