Temple of the Dog share alternate mix of “Say Hello 2 Heaven” — listen

A different edit culled from the band's forthcoming 25th anniversary reissue

Next week sees the release of the special 25th anniversary reissue of grunge supergroup Temple of the Dog’s self-titled debut. The two previews we’ve had thus far of the September 30th release have been previously unheard demos “Black Cat” and “Angel of Fire”. However, the re-release also features alternate takes of some of the original album songs, and today we’ve been gifted with just such a track.

“Say Hello 2 Heaven” is the opening song and second single off Temple of the Dog, one of the most memorable cuts on the album. The new mix shared today pushes Chris Cornell’s even farther to the forefront, removing much of the reverb and letting his vocals ring out without interference. At the same time, the instrumentation is slightly more subdued here, highlighting the song’s melancholy. Take a listen above.

Later this year, the Pearl Jam/Soundgarden supergroup will hit the road for their first-ever tour. Find their itinerary here.
