The anti-Trump music series 30 Days, 30 Songs rolls on today with a contribution from EL VY (The National frontman Matt Berninger and Brent Knopf of Menomena/Ramona Falls). For the track “Are These My Jets”, the collaborative side-project imagines what it’s like to be inside Donald Trump’s head. Over some cool synths and punchy strings, Berninger implies that Trump could well be running on autopilot at this point, falling deeper into a misguided campaign he never intended to last this long. “I was rocking back and forth/ Feeding on the fear of course/ Wonder what I’m gonna do today,” he sings on the bridge before the chorus kicks in: “Are these my jets?/ I like to mix ladies’ drinks with my fingers/ Are these my jets?”
Take a listen below via Apple Music or Spotify — much like it will be on November 28th 8th, the choice is yours.
EL VY’s is just the latest entry in the 30 Days, 30 Songs series. Past tracks have come from Franz Ferdinand, Death Cab for Cutie, Aimee Mann, Jim James, and Thao of Thao and the Get Down Stay Down.
Update: EL VY have shared a video game based on “Are These My Jets”. While the song plays and the lyrics scroll by in the background, you man an orange walrus in a jet shooting at things like Twitter birds, Trump steaks, Tic Tacs, cosmos, and boobs. Clips of Trump’s infamous Access Hollywood bus tape play when you destroy certain objects (taking out the lockers, for example, triggers Trump’s locker room talk buddy Billy Bush’s obnoxious laugh). Play the game here, and watch Berninger reach his high score in the lyric video below.
