Planned Parenthood has seen a spike in donations in the days since the election. Both Donald Trump and Mike Pence are known to hold restrictive views on women’s reproductive rights, and with the GOP in command of Congress, many fear the party will be successful in its ongoing crusade to defund the nonprofit organization. Beastie Boys, who have been avidly against “Trump’s vision for America,” are now doing their part to continue to defend Planned Parenthood.
Ad-Rock has teamed up with Los Angeles-based vegan shoe company Keep to design a fresh pair of sneakers, all proceeds of which will benefit Planned Parenthood. Dubbed the “Keep x Ad-Rock midtop,” the sleek, winter-ready kicks feature “a water-resistant, nylon cordura body and is lined with synthetic shearling.” Plus, the whole thing is topped off “with an embroidery of Adam’s name, split between left and the right shoes.”
In a statement, Ad-Rock spoke about the sneakers and the importance of Planned Parenthood’s work:
“Winter’s cold and I couldn’t find a warm sneaker to walk around in. Given the outcome of our current election, it’s gonna get a lot colder before we can feel that summer sun again. So I collaborated with my friend Una [Kim, founder of] Keep shoes not just because I wanted warm sneaks, but because I support small business. I support women run business. I support Asian-American run business. Net proceeds of this shoe will be donated to Planned Parenthood because I support a woman’s right to choose and feel that women should not be punished for making decisions about their own lives and bodies. If you have similar beliefs, you might wanna grab a pair. Or, if you simply support fresh styles, then you too can be part of what peeps in Keeps are doing.”
