Nacho Vigalondo’s comedic monster movie Colossal gets its first trailer — watch

Anne Hathaway heads a cast that also includes Jason Sudeikis and Dan Stevens

Spanish filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo’s got a spotty track record. His concepts—often rooted in sci-fi and the supernatural—are always crafty, subversive, and graced with a comedic backbone, but his storytelling is often clunky and impenetrable, especially in his 2014 feature (and English language debut) Open Windows. That said, the trailer for his latest, Colossal, has all the marks of a home run, from its deviously simple concept to its tonal ingenuity. Well, so long as they got past that lawsuit business

In Colossal, Anne Hathaway stars as Gloria, a sad sack who moves from New York back to her hometown after losing both her job and boyfriend. When a giant monster begins laying waste to the city she left behind, she discovers she might have a hand in its destruction.

The movie also stars Jason Sudeikis, Tim Blake Nelson, and Consequence of Sound favorite Dan Stevens. After screening this week at the Sundance Film Festival, it will stomp into theaters on April 7th. Watch the full trailer above.
