Grimes and Janelle Monáe are mighty, futuristic warriors in the new “Venus Fly” video — watch

Grimes-directed surreal clip also features an alternate version of the song

It’s been more than a year since Grimes released her maximalist art-pop masterpiece Art Angels, but the Canadian singer and songwriter hasn’t stopped squeezing every ounce of surrealistic juice from that album’s tracks. Her latest project is a music video for “Venus Fly”, an Art Angels standout featuring Janelle Monáe.

Grimes directed and edited the incredible seven-minute visual herself and appears alongside Monáe. Both are dressed as mighty, futuristic warriors, complete with swords of fire. Watch the full video via TIDAL, which also includes an alternate version of “Venus Fly” toward the end. Update: You can now stream it via Grimes’ YouTube.

In an Instagram teaser clip yesterday, Grimes wrote about the video and how it relates to today’s current political climate:

Alongside the video, Grimes has shared a new playlist dubbed “Grimes’ Deep Vibes”. It features some very vibe-y tunes from the likes of Lana Del Rey (“Art Deco”), The Smashing Pumpkins (“1979”), Rihanna (“Higher”), Dixie Chicks (“Landslide”), and D.R.A.M. (“Broccoli”). Hear the whole thing below or over on TIDAL.
