Stephen King’s The Outsider is getting closer to your living room.

Back in June, we reported that Media Rights Capital (MRC) tapped veteran writer Richard Price (The Deuce, The Night Of) to adapt the new novel for a 10-episode series with Jack Bender and Marty Bowen to serve as executive producers.

Now, according to Variety, HBO has ordered the series into production with Jason Bateman to direct the first two episodes and Ben Mendelsohn to top line the cast, marking his return to TV following Bloodline.

Bateman will also serve as executive producer through his Aggregate Films banner alongside MRC, Bender, and Bowen, the latter two responsible for ushering in another King adaptation, Mr. Mercedes, over at AT&T’s Audience Network.

Ah, here’s where things get interesting: The Outsider has ties to Mr. Mercedes, and given Bender and Bowen’s involvement in both series — not to mention, AT&T and HBO being under one corporate roof — we might see some crossover action.

We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, stay tuned to The Losers’ Club, our weekly Stephen King podcast that covers everything in King’s Dominion.
