Bruce Springsteen turns 70 years young this month, and to celebrate, indie songwriter Lucy Dacus has covered one of his most classic hits, “Dancing in the Dark”.

Although Dacus considers The Boss one of her earliest role models, she chose to put her own spin on the Born in the U.S.A. smash. Instead of the signature synth line that runs through Springsteen’s 1984 original, Dacus flaunts her nimble guitar work.

In a statement, the boygenius member spoke about Springsteen’s impact on her music, and her dad, who also happens to be a major fan,

“Happy birthday to Bruce, but also happy birthday to my dad, the biggest Bruce fan I know and the reason I’ve listened to The Boss since birth. I resisted it when I was younger as a rebellion to my dad’s taste, but I have come to love his music on my own time. His lyricism is embedded in my own songwriting inextricably at this point.”
