After wowing the judges and viewers with his performance of AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” during his blind audition on Spain’s edition of The Voice Kids, little Jesús del Río sang another hit by the legendary rock band for the semifinals. This time, he blazed through AC/DC’s “Back in Black,” earning a trip to the finals.
Jesús, who was only 7 years old when the season began but has since celebrated his eighth birthday, went viral with his initial “Highway to Hell” audition. The judges/coaches went crazy for his performance and mobbed him onstage. He had to perform Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven” alongside a couple of other contestants for the battle round, but looked completely uncomfortable singing the pop hit. However, he still made it to the next stage.
It just might be that AC/DC is the only band that suits little Jesús’ voice, but he kills it every time he sings a song by the iconic rock act. He once again sang “Highway to Hell” during the knockout round, proving the first time wasn’t a fluke. And for the semifinals, he moved on from a Bon Scott-era AC/DC classic to a song that introduced Brian Johnson to millions of fans: “Back in Black.”
For “Back in Black,” Jesús sported sunglasses and a leather vest as he was flanked by a couple of guitar players. As he did with “Highway to Hell,” he hit some pretty impressive high notes throughout the song. At one point, during an instrumental section, he even mimicked AC/DC guitarist Angus Young’s famous take on Chuck Berry’s duckwalk.
While the coaches didn’t go as crazy as they did during the blind audition, they still gave him a standing ovation. He was eventually selected to be a finalist on the competition show.
