My Morning Jacket have announced their first album of entirely new material in six years. The self-titled LP is set for release on October 22nd via ATO Records. As a preview, the band has shared a video for the lead single, “Regularly Scheduled Programming.” Check it out below.
MMJ recorded their ninth album over two multi-week sessions at Los Angeles, CA’s 64 Sound in the months prior to the pandemic. Now, just days before they’re launching their first American tour in six years, the band is finally ready to release the album to the masses.
“I hope this album brings people a lot of joy and relief, especially since we’ve all been cooped up for so long,” frontman Jim James said in a statement. “I know that feeling you get from driving around blasting music you love, or even lying in bed and crying to the music you love. The fact that we’re able to be a part of people’s lives in that way is so magical to us, and it feels really good that we’re still around to keep doing that.”
My Morning Jacket will be released in a variety of configurations, including as a special edition double-LP vinyl package. Pre-orders are now ongoing. Check out the album’s artwork and tracklist, as well as the band’s upcoming tour dates below. Tickets are available for purchase here.
Last summer, My Morning Jacket released The Waterfall II, an album of recordings taken from the same sessions as 2015’s The Waterfall. They also recently launched a new vinyl series of live recordings.
