Unfortunately, Pixies are the latest addition to a growing list of artists pulling out of their upcoming tours. Today, the alt-rock icons announced that their 11-date US run — originally scheduled to go down next month — would be cancelled due to COVID-19-related concerns.
Quoting a press release, “Pixies have determined that with the current surge in COVID cases made worse by the Delta variant, this is the right decision for their fans, crew members and themselves, and ask that their fans stay safe and healthy.”
The band, whose seventh studio album, Beneath the Eyrie, arrived in 2019, were scheduled to appear at Summerfest in Milwaukee and Riot Fest in Chicago. They were also betting on a pair of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame shows in Ohio with Nine Inch Nails, who have also cancelled all their remaining 2021 concerts.
To ease your disappointment over the bad news, you can watch 10-year-old musician extraordinaire Nandi Bushell rip through a cover of “Where Is My Mind?,” which got a recent stamp of approval from Pixies themselves.
