The outing starts on April 21st in Montreal and runs through May 11th in Riverside, California. The metal bands will visit 16 cities (six in Canada) covering different markets than their fall 2021 trek. Tickets go on sale for the general public on Friday (February 11th) at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster, with pre-sales beginning Tuesday (February 8th).
“We’re excited to come back to North America for the second leg of shows together with our ‘brothers from other mothers’ in Mastodon,” Opeth singer-guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt stated in a press announcement. “And… hello, Canada! It’s been too long, we know! We’ll soon dust off the ole guitars etc. and get in shape for this run. The last tour was quite splendid; the only downside being the restrictions.”
Regarding COVID-related border restrictions, Åkerfeldt added: “We don’t know for sure how it’s going to pan out this time around, but we’re hoping for a bit more freedom to move around. Crossing fingers here. See you semi-soon! Signing off from a rainy, gloomy Stockholm.”
After catching the 2021 leg in New York City, we can attest to the power of this heavy double billing. Mastodon are fresh off the release of the highly anticipated Hushed and Grim, while Opeth remain dialed into the material from 2019’s In Cauda Venenum. Zeal & Ardor supported the 2021 run, though no opening act has been announced for the 2022 leg.
