Elvis Costello recently reunited his first band Rusty in celebration of the group’s 50th anniversary, and he swung by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for a late-night showcase. Watch Rusty’s pair of performances, along with Fallon’s catch-up with the musician, below.
As D.P. MacManus, Costello formed the folk duo Rusty with Allan Mayes in 1972, and while they played dozens of gigs together, the band never put out any recorded music. But this past June, they released The Resurrection of Rust, an EP containing staples from their live sets, including a cover of Brinsley Schwarz’s “Surrender to the Rhythm” and a medley of the Neil Young songs “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” and “Dance, Dance, Dance.” Watch them perform both tracks below.
During his chat with Fallon, Costello announced a 10-show residency at New York’s Gramercy Theater in February 2023 during which he plans to play 200 different songs. In the meantime, he and The Imposters will be on the road supporting their January album The Boy Named If until September; grab your tickets here.
In May, the new waver joined Colbert on the Late Show, where he recalled meeting classic Hollywood star Gregory Peck as a child.
