Action junkies are in luck today, because Peacock has announced a multi-year deal for  The Continental, a highly anticipated three-part special event based on the blockbuster John Wick films. Premiering in 2023, the limited series will explore the origin story of the Continental Hotel, a refuge and meeting ground for hit men and assassins.

Set in 1975 New York, The Continental is told from the point of view of a young Winston Scott (Colin Woodell), who we know eventually becomes the hotel’s manager. The series will focus on Winston’s dangerous quest to seize control of the hotel, which serves as a rendezvous point for some of the world’s deadliest criminals.

The announced cast so far is rounded out with Ayomide Adegun as Charon, Peter Greene as Uncle Charlie, Mel Gibson as Cormac, Ben Robson as Frankie, Hubert Point-Du Jour as Miles, Jessica Allain as Lou, Mishel Prada as KD, and Nhung Kate as Yen.  It looks like we probably won’t get to see Keanu Reeves reprise his role as Mr. Wick himself, but it’s been speculated that he might make a cameo.

“The John Wick films have become a global phenomenon, are among the most watched titles on Peacock and we are thrilled and honored to partner with Lionsgate to extend this incredible franchise,” Peacock and Direct-to-Consumer President Kelly Campbell said in a statement. “We understand the value of a global franchise and Val Boreland and team knew that by bringing this special event series to Peacock and putting the full power of NBCUniversal behind it, the premiere of The Continental will be the streaming event of the year.”

Greg Coolidge and Kirk Ward serve as writers and showrunners on The Continental and executive produce alongside Albert Hughes, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Chad Stahelski, Derek Kolstad, David Leitch, Shawn Simmons, Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese, and Marshall Persinger.  Albert Hughes will direct the first and third episodes, and Charlotte Brandstrom directs the second night.

In more good news for John Wick fans, the franchise’s fourth film is set to hit theaters on March 24th, 2023. A fifth film is the franchise has already been greenlit by Lionsgate and is in early development.
